The Reds will receive a minor league player from Oakland for Tanner Roark. That’s what we said to expect on Monday based on the Jordan Lyles trade.
The Reds acquired Roark (32) in the offseason from the Washington Nationals in exchange for reliever Tanner Rainey. Roark made 21 starts for the Reds with a 4.56 xFIP, right around league average.

Hannah is the A's 2nd round pick from 2018, hitting .283/.341/.381 at high-A in the notoriously hitter-friendly Cal League. CF has 2 HR, 88 SO in 375 ABs. 6 SB, 7 CS.

Hannah is a solid CF prospect. He hasn't hit for power yet this year, but has hit for average all year with Stockton and has a high baseball IQ to go along with his athleticism. https://t.co/9JbWEr5JVS

FanGraphs ranks Hannah the A’s #6 prospect with a 45 score (Taylor Trammell was 55). MLB Pipeline rates Hannah as the A’s #8 prospect. An A’s fan blog has him at #7. Keep in mind that every organization has a #6 or #8 prospect. There’s a huge variance from team to team.
Not bad for 1/2 year of Roark but sounds like another Jose Peraza type. Not my favorite.
*Not my favorite profile for a hitter but to clarify I am definitely ok with this trade.
That’s exactly my feeling. Not crazy about player type, but a decent return given context.
Reds paid $3 million of Roark salary to improve the return. Not a salary dump.
More than I expected. They had to move someone with no place in the rotation, and I am glad it was Roark.
And I love the fact that they are sending dough to improve the prospect return – feels more aggressive and a switch from previous practice. They have salary space available and didn’t have good enough places to spend it last winter (after folks like JA Happ turned them down). I hope they do it with another player or two in the next half hour.
