One-Week Fundraiser: Support RC+

Dear RC+ Readers,

A few years ago, Matt Wilkes and I decided to join up and create this place, Reds Content Plus (RC+). We had each written about the Reds for more than a decade, but RC+ allowed us to fulfill our common interest in detailed research and analysis about the Reds. We wanted to offer Cincinnati Reds fans a way to keep up with the team through quality, in-depth articles. Over the years here, we’ve written about the players, manager, the front office, ownership and broader baseball trends in ways you won’t find elsewhere. It is important to us to emphasize up-to-date means of evaluating players, including the latest in data collection and statistics.

We started RC+ during the 2019 season. As you know, the past couple years as Reds fans have been interesting and challenging at times. We’ve shared in that as writers. Beyond the countless player introductions, opponent previews and new statistics, RC+ analyzed the front office and ownership. We’ve done dozens of in-depth pieces on individual players. RC+ has been there for postseason races and 100-loss seasons. We struggled, as everyone did, with COVID. We reported on and analyzed the owner lockout that delayed the start of the 2022 season. And now we’re thrilled to explore and write about this exciting, ahead-of-schedule club.

Matt and I made a few other choices. We decided against advertising, auto-load video and pop-up ads. We host a busy Slack chatroom that is free and available to anyone, but we keep that discussion civil. We don’t shape our posts to maximize clicks because we don’t make money based on clicks. I think we’ve fulfilled our commitment to provide independent, clear-eyed analysis of how the Reds are doing and where they are headed. We don’t pull punches or blow smoke.

We hope RC+ — as we’ve done it — offers you value.

That brings us to our fundraising week. Instead of year-round advertising, we limit requests to one week. It’ll be the only time all year we’ll ask for your help. Direct support from you is our sole source of revenue. Your contributions help defray the cost of operating the site, allow us to pay our writers, and provide encouragement for our efforts. In addition, I’ve just been told the more you contribute, the faster Hunter Greene’s hip gets better. That last part sounds urgent.

We’ve made it as easy as possible. Contribute here now, or click the Support RC+ item in the top menu. Any amount is appreciated. If you contribute $10/month or $100 total, that makes you an Insider. Your name will appear on the honor role list on the site’s front page. We’ll give special recognition to folks who surpass those amounts.

In closing, Matt and I want to express our deep gratitude to everyone who has helped us through the years, including our other authors. We appreciate fans who take the time to stop by here and at our Slack channel to read, comment and support the site. Whether or not you contribute, we hope you keep reading!

Sincerely,

Steve Mancuso

Steve’s fondest memories about the Reds include attending a couple 1975 World Series games, being at Homer Bailey’s second no-hitter and going nuts for Jay Bruce at Clinchmas. Steve was also at all three games of the 2012 NLDS, but it’s too soon to talk about that.
