[We received this Reds Memory from reader Brian B. Here’s the official box score from the game he remembers. Thanks, Brian for sharing your memory with us.]
My favorite Reds memory is a simple one, but I will never forget the day and it’s the reason I am a Reds fan. On August 21st, 1999, my dad took a few friends and me to the Reds game against the Expos for my 8th birthday. I live in Columbus and this was my first visit to Cincy for a game. I still remember almost every detail from that night. In the 6th inning, Aaron Boone hit a grand slam, which was the first grand slam of the season for the Reds. The very next inning, Eddie Taubensee also hit a grand slam. Two swings of the bat and 8 runs later, fireworks were going off, the crowd was absolutely roaring and I was completely hooked. The energy was amazing and I have been obsessed with baseball and the Reds ever since. 1999 was also a season that featured a fantastic pennant race, so the game was very meaningful.
I will admit, I was a little disappointed when I attended my second MLB game a few weeks later and came to realize that two grand slams in one game is pretty unusual.
