Cincinnati Reds General Manager Nick Krall announced today that the Reds have traded for RHP Noe Ramirez and a player to be named in exchange for RHP Raisel Iglesias and cash.
Noe Ramirez has been a reliable reliever for the Angels the last three seasons and will look to bolster the Reds bullpen.
- 2018 – 83.1 IP, .319 xwOBA, 4.15 xERA, 3.82 xFIP
- 2019 – 67.2 IP, .287 xwOBA, 3.44 xERA, 4.07 xFIP
- 2020 – 21.0 IP, .295 xwOBA, 3.95 xERA, 5.49 xFIP
Ramirez is arbitration-eligible through the 2023 season and is estimated to make $1.1 million in arbitration this season. This is a cost-saving move, with Iglesias due to make $9.125 million in 2021. Iglesias has been a staple in the Reds bullpen the last six seasons, and it leaves a hole in the Reds bullpen for the closer, especially after RHP Archie Bradley was non-tendered last week for the Reds.
The Reds’ front office is clearly making cutting payroll a priority this offseason, but to what ends they will do so is still uncertain. The Reds do have viable options to replace Iglesias as the closer — particularly Amir Garrett, who recorded his first career save last season.

I thought they were going to do this but while keeping Bradley.
Don’t agree on Garrett as viable option for closer. He walks too many and gives up too many HRs. He is very effective against LHed hitters which makes him valuable for high leverage matchups against lefties, and the Reds have no one else for that role.
Best in-house option for closing would be Sims.
But … who knows what’s coming next. If the plan is to rebuild the pen with cheaper quality options, we’ll see. If they fill the bullpen by promoting from within, I hope that goes much better than in the past.
PS I’ll miss Iggy but that’s baseball.
Noe’s career stats look good, except for giving up a scary number of HRs. Looking forward to the in-depth analysis here.
